Confirmed! Obi Kaufmann in November
It’s official, Obi Kaufmann will do a show at Bedlam in November. Still working out the exact date his work will go up. I know it’s kinda soon to mention this, but I’m really excited. Obi Kaufmann had his first show, at my first coffeeshop in Pullman (Sidewalk Coffee & Tea) so getting him to show here has been a dream since we opened.

Fresh on the heals of a west coast tour, playing at places like the Viper Room, and the House of Blues, Amy with Mariah Secrest (Tucson, AZ) head into the prisons, to bring music, some light, and perhaps a few moments of joy to the inmates. The “Activate” tour includes four prisons in the Seattle area, and has included homeless shelters and refugee centers to raise money for a myriad of charities such as Mocha Club, an African aid organization, and Not For Sale, a sex trafficking organization for whom we sell products made by former sex slaves and thereby help keep them OUT of slavery.
Currently Amy is Offering a free download of “Shiver” sponsored by Microsoft. “Shiver” From Amy’s first full length album: These cold and rusted lungs. The download can be found at http://www.myspace.com/windows?homepage=amycourts

Belltown Needle Update
The saucer section has been transported to the artist’s studio! Andie deRoux the original artist has great plans for it, including rebuilding the saucer completely, then using it to cast a mold from, once molded we could conceivably make as many saucer sections as we wanted
the best use for this technology? After getting the Belltown Needle installed in Belltown, I will peddle the saucer to other neighborhood groups to use in the construction of their very own personalized neighborhood-centric Space Needle. With the Space Needle Corps blessing (I hope) Since yr here, you should wonder over and have a look at Andie’s stuff if you haven’t already >the Link

Bedlam Coffee is now selling Yellow Leaf Cupcakes.

Here’s what Yellow Leaf says about themselves: Our cupcakes are made fresh with limited quantities of each flavor offered daily. We make all of our baked goods in small batches, as not to jeopardize the integrity of the product. Our goal is to make sure the best product is available, never over-producing our cupcakes. We are very proud of our product and want you to enjoy them as much as we do!
Seeing how much love goes into these little gems is the best and primary reason we decided to feature Yellow Leaf in the shop.

Starbucks is out of Fresh Ideas…
…So they’ve sent teams of scavengers out into the neighborhoods to troll for them.
Hm, flattering? Is it scary? hm..I don’t know. First instant coffee, now this, combine with a stenciled gunny sack ad campaign, and you’ve got a classic cry for help.
Which brings me to why I’m posting, a recent Seattle Coffee Works blog post has so completely nailed the independent coffee shop thing, that I just have to direct any and all attention I can to it. theLink> (That Chain with the Green Logo.” -Sebastian Simsch)

SO if you haven’t already read Sebastian Simsch’s brilliant article at the Seattle Coffee Works Blog, you really should, even if you aren’t a Seattle coffee shop owner,or a Barista, or a friend of a Barista, or a cousin of a girl that once lived with a Barista that made an Americano for Kurt Cobain’s assistant, it’s a good read.

Additionally- have you seen the giant drinking man at 1’st and Pike Yet, So Great! Damn, directly opposite the Pike Place Clock a brand new Seattle Icon to be photographed in front of. And people will make a B-Line for it in the walk-all-ways crosswalk.
” Starbucks? what Starbucks?”
“We just walked past it, that short dark shuttered place place back there on the corner where something better looking used be.”
-anyway, it was an inspiring article, at least for me, hopefully for others. Bedlam doesn’t want to be SCW, but we sure can appreciate the divine attention they bring to the independent coffeeshop. Applause Applause Applause for Seattle Coffee Works

Bedlam will be open till 3am Fri/Sat
Yep, Bedlam is backing up in respect to it’s 24 hour weekends. Right now it just doesn’t seem like there’s enough interest. We will be open till 3am tho, so it’s kinda like were still doing it, and we are not ruling it our for the future. When we are busy at 3am, then we’ll bring back the 24 hour weekend thing, but for now 3am seems pretty well in line with what the customers want.
