See Click Fix

top_logoHave you heard about this app? I just came across this while searching for Seattle specific apps. It’s not actually just Seattle tho, a few cities. The way it works is, your walking down the street, you see a broken street lamp, you snap a picture of it (I’ve not yet done that) you post this with a description of the problem, other people do the same thing, the city sees it and it get’s fixed.

http://seeclickfix.com/seattle

Another way it’s being used right now in Seattle is on Capitol Hill, the intersection at Broadway and John has a few people interested in changing it into an all walk (like 1st and Pike) intersection. I agreed with it so I clicked the little button and added my name to the list of people who thinks it’s something that needs a fix. Now we can all sit back and smugly enjoy the “tell your government what to do” feeling. AND they give you one of those .pdf you can print with a bar code on it to ease access for those app users that can read them when posted at the site of the needed fix. (while at the same time becoming something that needs to be fixed)

Course the blazing question in your mind, and mine…does the city actually fix it? Is there a list somewhere of things being fixed either here or elsewhere?I dunno. (there does seem to be a system in place to check off what did get fixed, no idea if the fixer is doing that tho, I bet not)

I think this is a great idea, and I plan to see what I can do to find out whether Seattle City gov even knows this app/site exists.

Curently at Form/space Atelier

Current Exhibition
Show Title: Trombones Bleu
Show Duration: February 12 – March 7, 2010
kandegas_2_sm

Matthew Kandegas exhibits his third and final solo show at Form/Space Atelier. Kandegas moved to Vaasa, Finland January 1, to join an intentional community of Suomi (Lapplanders) endeavoring to re-establish Suomi customs, language and culture in an urban milieu ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korsholm ). The community has built in the city a lichen farm, which, as fodder, will sustain a herd of caribou. Kandegas will retain representation by Form/Space Atelier at the request of his collectors located in Seattle, though as of press time, Kandegas was unable to say whether he would continue to create new paintings while in Finland, but said the move to Scandinavia was “permanent and irrevocable…”.

Matthew Kandegas has been described as a Post-Minimalist painter, his subjects have been figural in response to stadium rock, but in the last decade he has created only images of paperclips. Curator Paul Pauper discovered Kandegas during research for organizing a performative spectacle exhibition of Kyle MacDonald at Form/Space Atelier in November of 2007. MacDonald is an artist and author of One Red Paperclip… , an account of MacDonald’s success in trading 14 times from a simple paperclip to a two-bedroom house.

Form/Space Atelier donated a Kandegas painting from his series Trombones Jeunes to Strangercrombie 2009, his work is also in the collections of MacDonald, Lindsey Daniel, The Low Income Housing Institute, Cascade People’s Center and several other charitable organizations.

Trombones Bleu translated from the French is blue paperclips, the paintings exhibited are the latest series which began with Trombones Rouge (red paperclips) followed by Trombones Jeune (yellow paperclips). Trombones Bleu are oil on panel, mostly large scale (4 feet by 9 feet) oriented portrait.

Yep…another window down…

I don’t have pictures yet, camera battery dead, but Bedlam got broke into last night, he attempted to steal the big monitor off the wall, he was interrupted by Jesse who was upstairs on his computer and heard the glass break. The idiot actually though he could run off with a 50 inch plasma, the thing weighs like 100 pounds, geesh…

But were all good, everything cept a cookie jar made it through just fine…and although the monitor is sitting on the floor in the back it seems to work just fine and we’ll have it back up shortly. The good thing is he was interrupted so hopefully he’ll expect that to happen again and won’t return..

I gotta say tho, please do not badmouth Belltown over this, I personally will be very pissed at the first @#$hole that says anything about the crime in Belltown, it’s higher in Eastlake. Seriously the next person that badmouths MY NEIGHBORHOOD could likely get smacked in the face…I love Belltown, we love Belltown, and Bedlam Loves Belltown, we would never want to be anywhere else.

We will have FOUR surveillance cameras in place in the next couple days tho :P
I’ll have pictures soon…

The Shop failed to get out of the way…

…of an angry rock.

oops....

oops....

oops 2...

oops 2...

oops patched

oops patched

the patch will have to be in place till Monday afternoon, insurance will cover most of the replacement, so it’s all good. This window actually has a 3A tagged scratched into it anyway, and we have always planned to replace it. We do have a strong idea who did it, but without any proof our resident insane guitar player can’t be named publicly…
next time the shop will duck…

Obi Kaufmann,wow.

142b
That was almost surreal, no it was completely surreal. Obi’s show was a screaming success, I couldn’t be more pleased that my fair city showed him so much love. He sold his first piece before it even made it to the wall, eveything beyond there is a blur, and then at like 9am the next day he was gone, like a wild storm. Luckily we at Bedlam managed to buy some stuff, otherwise the walls would be bare until next ArtWalk, In all Bedlam managed to snag 7 pieces. Here’s some pics from the all to brief show below. Obi was immediately asked to return, he said 8, we said 6 months. So hopefully we will have him back up in the spring-ish.

there were three of the pink/blue pieces seen here, the third was sold before it got to the nail. A fourth however hangs over the pickup window as a gift from the artist. :)

everything here sold, the piece at the far left was nabbed by Charlie so we all get to enjoy it untill he takes it home.

Not the normal post for Bedlamite.com, but…

…it just struck me as kinda cool.
I got this in my email this morning…

City Launches Expedited Permitting for Green Projects

The City of Seattle has launched a new expedited permitting process for highly energy efficient development projects. On Sept. 30, the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) unveiled the Green Q permitting program for single family and other small residential projects. A second phase for larger and more complex projects will begin in early 2010. This implements a recommendation from the Green Building Task Force.

The program offers the following benefits:

• Priority Intake Appointments
• 50% Faster Initial Plan review
• Application and Review assistance from staff with green building expertise
• Green Building/ Energy Efficiency Recognition.

“I’m excited to offer this new, expedited permitting process for sustainable development projects,” said Diane Sugimura, DPD Director. “This program recognizes those who are creating energy, water, and resource efficient buildings, and encourages others to do the same. The Green Q is a very important step in the effort to raise the sustainability bar in Seattle.”

To qualify for Green Q, applicants must: recycle construction waste; limit dwelling unit size to no more than 2,400 square feet; meet existing code requirements; and design the project to meet one of the following sustainability standards:

• LEED Silver, Gold or Platinum
• Built Green 4 or 5 star
• DPD’s Green Q Alternative Path

The LEED and Built Green programs include broad green building strategies and require third party verification. DPD’s Alternative Path focuses on energy efficiency and provides an option for applicants who choose not to pursue third party verification. The Green Q Alternative Path requirements closely align with the anticipated 2009 Washington State Energy Code, scheduled to be applicable in summer 2010.

The Green Q will further Seattle’s leadership role in climate change initiatives and support DPD’s efforts to make sustainable design the standard rather than the exception. Faster permit reviews will encourage the construction of more energy efficient buildings, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing jobs for green building designers and contractors.

Other Green Building assistance available at DPD for sustainable development includes:

• Priority Green – an integrated review process for projects pushing the envelope of green building. Facilitated permitting support by DPD is provided for highly innovative projects that will serve as visible models of high performance and sustainability. Projects must meet stringent environmental criteria, including adherence to the 2030 Challenge. Launched in 2008.

• Deconstruction Permits – code change to allow residential builders the additional time needed to deconstruct buildings for re-use and re-cycling that would otherwise be slated for the landfill. Adopted by City Council in 2009.

• The Innovation Review Board – a new advisory board created to provide objective, technical input from members of the community and development industry, assisting developers seeking to use innovative new technology not currently recognized by technical code standards. To convene fall 2009.

• Living Building Challenge – working with developers seeking to meet the advanced sustainability standards set by Cascadia Green Building Council’s Living Building Challenge. Living buildings generate all their own energy, process their own waste, and meet a number of other requirements, thus presenting the most challenge to design, permit and construct. Legislation to City Council in fall of 2009.

DPD is working to advance Seattle’s Action Agenda by improving the regulatory climate for sustainable development.
